CAREER AND TECHNICAL EDUCATION DEPARTMENT (CTE) The definition of Career and Technical Education (CTE), according to the Washington State Office of the Superintendent of Public Instruction is, "a planned program of courses and learning experiences that begins with exploration of career options, supports basic academic and life skills, and enables achievement of high academic standards, leardship, preparation for industry-defined work, and advanced and continuing education." In the Pasco School District, we are pleased to offer over 200 different CTE courses at Pasco High School, Chiawana High School, New Horizons High School, Tri-Tech Skills Center, and Delta High School. CTE is comprised of four major occupational areas. These are Agriculture Science, Business and Marketing Education, Family and Consumer Sciences Education, and Technology Education. The links to your left will show you the names of the courses that we currently offer within each of these areas. Currently, the CTE Department is comprised of forty-five teachers, one Instructional Technology Coach, one Instructional Coach, and six support staff. We are very fortunate to have a very talented and caring group of professionals who are focused on helping students make a successful transition from high school to the world of work, and/or continue their education via the military, technical schools, or college. We are very proud of our students' successes in CTE and welcome the public to come tour our schools! In addition, all of our programs have a business-industry advisory committee that is comprised of community members who help advise us on how best to prepare our students for life after high school. If you would like to arrange a tour and/or would like to learn more about how you can become involved in CTE, or if you have any questions about our programs, please call or e-mail me! I look forward to talking with you! Chris Martinson, CTE Director (509) 543-6700, ext. 2164 or e-mail to: cmartinson@psd1.org |
