Chiawana and Pasco High Schools Score High Marks at
District Vocal Solo and Ensemble Festival

A note from Rob Dennis, Director of Vocal Music - Pasco High School and
Jolyn Glenn, Director of Vocal Music - Chiawana High School and  3/11/2013

               From Rob Dennis at PHS.....

Saturday Pasco High had the honor of hosting more than 140 students from the Tri-Cities, Othello, and Walla Walla as they competed in the Columbia Basin Region Vocal Solo & Ensemble Contest. You can be truly proud of how ALL the vocal music students represented you in the contest, and of how well they managed and operated the event as well. I heard nothing but glowing praise for their efforts.

And to top it off, we had several students who received top honors at the event, including a STATE NOMINEE!!!

PHS Award Winners:

Soprano division

State Nominiee - Mali McEnderfer (Mali will represent the entire region at the WIAA State Solo & Ensemble Contest in April!!!)

Alto division

2nd alternate - Joanna Barajas

In addition to these two winners, the following singers all received a "Superior" rating, the highest possible score awarded at the contest:

Franklin Castellanos

Payton Fleming

Bianca Navarette

Carrie Nolan

Carson Roach

Alexis Williams

If you see these students, congratulate them on a job well done. As a teacher, I have to say I am happiest about all these superior ratings, even more so than the state nominations, as the ratings are based on a standard, not on the competition. It shows what an incredible depth of vocal talent we have here at Pasco High.  Finally, I would like to extend special thanks to my colleague, Matthew Polk, who spent most of the day here accompanying our students on guitar. What an outstanding support for these students, and a prime example of the cross-department support our VPA staff continue to exhibit.

Thanks,

Rob

A note from Maxine Townson; guitar faculty at McLouhglin Middle School... 2/4/2013

Just wanted to let you know about our great news this morning.  Having been through quite the selection process, our Guitar Program has been selected to present at the upcoming National Conference in Tennessee on October 27-30, in Nashville, later this year. We were notified at the beginning of January that we were in the top finalists and so we were keeping everything crossed. Keeping your Guitar Program "Real Time, Real Life"   A concept that we birthed at McLoughlin MS, joining with our community last year, was submitted along with You Tube performance clips from our last concerts. We are very excited and doing little dances today at Mcloughlin. We are honored to be part of the amazing guitar phenomena that is happening.
