On May 27 Pasco High School’s advanced French class will create a French restaurant in the classroom called Le Café Violet. The goal of the class’s culmination project is to not only promote the French language and culture, but to also highlight the outstanding efforts of the students at Pasco High, says teacher Nancy Holton.

Chiawana High School’s DECA program will host its first "Every 15 Minutes" presentation for seniors on May 26 and 27.

This is a year of firsts in the Pasco School District. The year began with Pasco High and Chiawana High in their first competition on the football field and will end with their first cooperative house building effort as Team Pasco Home is dedicated on May 25 at 1 p.m.

Chiawana High School will host a musical extravaganza on May 26 in the CHS Auditorium at 7 p.m. The concert will feature Chiawana’s award-winning concert bands, concert choirs, and jazz bands.

Twain Elementary will host its annual outdoor learning day on Friday, May 20 when students and volunteers take part in the 17th Annual Frontier Days. Throughout the day Twain students will learn about pioneers, the Old West, and Native American history.

Rowena Chess Elementary invites students, families and community members to the Flower Power Carnival on May 18.

The McLoughlin Middle School Student Leadership Team is hosting a Mini-Relay for Life event on May 13 from 8 a.m. to 9:30 p.m.

Students from Chiawana and Pasco High Schools have received over $4000 in grant money from State Farm Insurance to promote teen driver safety in their schools and community. State Farm agents Luis Garza, Scott Sintay, and Craig Griffins will present a check for the Shift into Safety grant program to the students at the Pasco School District Board meeting on Tuesday, May 10 at 6:30 p.m.

More than 23,000 applied, one thousand were chosen, and two are Pasco School District seniors. The Gates Millennium Scholars were announced recently and Noel Gutierrez, Pasco High School, and Jose Mendoza, Chiawana High School, are among the elite group chosen this year to receive the a good-through-graduation scholarship to use at any college or university of their choice.

Chiawana High School is honored to host internationally renowned motivational speaker Nick Vujicic on May 6. Vujicic, 28, was born in Brisbane, Australia in 1982 with no arms or legs; there is no medical explanation for this.

Performances, games and activities are among the exciting events planned for Chiawana High School’s first Cinco de Mayo Fiesta on Thursday from 4-7 p.m.

This isn’t your grandma’s Broadway musical revue. Pasco High’s 10th Avenue Singers will rock the PHS Auditorium May 12-14 with the Broadway musical revue "Time of Your Life," a reference to Green Day’s American Idiot currently playing on Broadway. Performances are at 7 p.m. and with one matinee on May 14 at 1 p.m.

The Pasco High DECA chapter has received $2400 in grant money from State Farm Insurance to promote safe driving in their school and community. Students have created a campaign which focuses on the dangers of racing and speeding with the campaign slogan, "Don’t Race to Your Grave."

Today is the last day to purchase tickets for the "Peds Have Needs for TVs" event which will be held at the Pasco Red Lion on April 29 at 6:30 p.m.

Pasco School District is pleased to announce that John Wallwork has accepted the position of principal at McLoughlin Middle School. Wallwork is currently in his third year as Assistant Principal at Pasco High. He will take over as McLoughlin principal on July 1.

Pasco High School DECA members will host the inaugural DECA’s Next Top Model Fashion Show, the local version of the hit TV show "America’s Next Top Model," on March 29 at 7 p.m. in the Pasco High Auditorium.

The School-Based Enterprise (SBE) at Pasco High School has earned Gold Certification from DECA for the third consecutive year. Pasco High’s SBE was one of 112 school stores that achieved Gold Re-certification this year and will be recognized at DECA’s International Career Development Conference in Orlando, Florida.

Reading and writing take center court as Stevens Middle School hosts “Slam Dunk a Good Book,” a sports-themed literacy event on March 1 from 6 -7:30 p.m. for students and their families.

McLoughlin Middle School hosts its Family Science Night on Feb. 23 from 6 to 8 p.m. Science teachers, students and community organizations and businesses will present a large variety of educational science activities. Families and community members are invited to stop by and participate in the fun.

Pasco School District is seeking a cross section of interested Pasco residents to serve on the Multi-Track Year Round School Schedule Planning Committee. Applications are currently being accepted by persons who wish to serve on this committee. All applications must be completed and returned by Feb. 14 at 5 p.m.

The Pasco School Board is happy to welcome new member Ruben Peralta. Peralta applied, was interviewed, and was selected by the board to fill Board Position No. 1, which was vacated on Jan. 25 by Judge H.W. “Pete” Felsted, who resigned citing personal reasons.

Chiawana High School will host a regional Speech and Debate Tournament on Saturday beginning at 9 a.m. in the student mall. The tournament is expected the end about 4:30 with an awards ceremony.

Volunteers are needed for the 11th Annual Best of the West Wrestling Tournament which will be held on Dec. 21 from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Dec. 22 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Pasco High School.

Pasco School District officials have announced closures and delays for Nov. 23 based on weather reports and increasing snowfall. All schools will be on a two-hour delay, but because this is an early-release conference week there will be no school for grades K-8 tomorrow. Parent conferences will be held as scheduled.

Edgar Brown Stadium has been the site of many historic Pasco moments from the first game in 1957 to housing three State Championship football teams in 1998, 2000, and 2003. This Friday night marks another moment in history when, for the first time, two Pasco high schools will battle for gridiron glory in what has been dubbed the Gravel Pit Championship.

At the conclusion of the three‐day Labor Day weekend enrollment numbers in the Pasco School District took another significant jump today as was expected with total enrollment now at 14,965 students, an increase of 712 students over this time last year.

The first week of classes in Pasco has concluded and enrollment increases are within the expected range.

As the first week of school is drawing to a close, Pasco School District administrators continue to meet daily to monitor growing numbers of students across the grade levels with the sharpest increase thus far in grades K-5.

Today was the first full day of school for all Pasco School District students and numbers have increased as was expected.

Student numbers continued to slowly increase again today, the third day of classes in the Pasco School District.

What do a life-size hovercraft, rockets, flaming Doritos, ice cream, root beer, and rap songs about plate tectonics all have in common? They are among the many innovative teaching tools used daily by Pasco High School Science Teacher John Kerr who was named Education Service District 123 Teacher of the Year at a ceremony on Aug. 27.

Monday was the first day of school for Pasco students in grades K‐5, 6 and 9. Tuesday is the first day for all students. This staggered start is for the purpose of helping students transition to middle school and high school. Therefore the following information does not include all students.

High school students in Pasco who want to participate in any fall sports must attend the Parent/Athlete Sports Eligibility Clearance Night for Fall Sports at their school on Aug. 16.
