Valentine’s Mailbox STEM Challenge
Several 5th grade classes at Livingston were given a challenge to design and engineer a Valentine’s mailbox. The possibilities were endless as long as they created a mailbox with a working door, had an accompanying blueprint with accurate measurements, and included a materials list. The final projects were simply amazing!
Dear Parents and Guardians,
We are proud to announce that Ruth Livingston was awarded the 2013 School of Distinction for the fourth consecutive year. The Center for Educational Effectiveness presents this award to the schools that represent the top five percent of improvement of all schools in Washington. Congratulations to our staff, students and parents for another job well done!
This year our teachers are shifting their instruction to support the new Common Core State Standards (CCSS). The new standards are designed to be robust and relevant to the real world and reflect the skills and knowledge that students need to be successful in college and in their careers. The Common Core State Standards place greater emphasis on reading informational (nonfiction) texts and writing informative, explanatory and evidenced-based argument pieces across all curriculum areas. The new standards are rigorous and we look forward to adjusting our instruction to meet the high academic demands. Our ultimate goal is to ensure the academic success for each of our students now and in the future. On behalf of the entire Ruth Livingston staff, I’d like to THANK YOU for your continuous support and commitment to your child’s learning.
Sincerely, Susan Sparks
