Your Home for Online Professional Development Courses
We are pleased to offer online PD opportunities for you to continue your professional learning. Please see below for a list of options available at this time. To register, please complete the Microsoft Form linked to each content area to indicate the courses you are interested in. Please check back frequently as new courses will be added as they become available. Once registered, someone from our office will provide you, via Pasco School District email, with the resources necessary to access your course.
The professional development courses that include the (*) designation can be used to satisfy the designated 5th day or optional professional development day (Article III: Section 2.C:Line 325). Any certificated staff will work with their supervisor for access to appropriate professional development by May 29, 2020.

Intended Audience: Certificated Teachers K-12
This AVID Online PD opportunity is available to any certificated staff who is currently at an AVID site/school.
Participants will:
* explore AVID resources to gain a better understanding of what is available in their online membership
*have the knowledge of AVID resources in order to use as potential integration into daily lessons.
*gain an understanding of WICOR and how it can be embedded into instruction as a potential resource.Any courses combined to create 3 or 6 clock hours together can be used to satisfy the designated 5th day or optional professional development day.

SPARKecademy (up to 30 clock hours) Added 04/02/2020
Intended Audience: Certificated PE Teachers K-12th Grade
SPARKecademy is a professional development resource for K-12 Physical Educators. There are a vast number of modules within the SPARKecademy platform for educators to customize their professional learning. Through these modules. participants will consider how the learning targets connect with CCSS for physical education and incorporate these into lesson plans. Participants will learn to incorporate new strategies to engage students in physical activity as well as how to communicate with parents to continue physical education learning at home.

*Gang Identification and Intervention (3 clock hours) Added 04/03/2020
Intended Audience: Classified, Certificated, Administrative K-12th Grade
Local community member, Mr. Jesse Campos, discusses current trends involving at-risk youth and gang activity. Mr. Campos also shares effective strategies for interacting with at-risk youth and gang members within our communities. This training also includes information from a panel of former gang members that discuss what is needed in our community to help our youth struggling with gang-related challenges. Participants in the course will learn to identify current trends involving at-risk youth and gang activity as well as identify effective strategies for interacting with at-risk youth and gang members within our community.

Character Strong Virtual Summit: Available April 13, 2020 – April 24, 2020 Registration Closed

Intended Audience: All Staff- Administrators, Certificated, Classified K-12th Grade
Character Strong is hosting a Whole Child Virtual Summit on April 13-24. During this event, participants will have an opportunity to hear from a variety of speakers regarding the importance of educating the Whole Child and building positive school culture. Participants will gain an understanding of the importance in educating the Whole Child and the importance of building positive school culture, as well as identify strategies to achieve both.

FBA to BIP for Behavior Specialists and Counselors (up to 8.5 clock hours) Added 03/26/2020
Intended Audience: Certificated K-12th Grade Behavior Specialists and Counselors
This seven-module series helps participants increase their understanding around identifying functions of behavior and behavior intervention planning. Module topics include the following: understanding behavior, FBA Interviews, FBA observations, function-based interventions, behavior intervention strategies, implementation planning, and evaluation planning. Upon completing this course, participants will understand the different functions of behavior and how to complete the Functional Assessment Checklist for Teachers and Staff. Participants will be able to identify function-based interventions and behavior intervention strategies and lead function-based intervention planning.
*Basic FBA to BIP School-wide Training (3 clock hours) Added 03/26/2020
Intended Audience: Certificated and Administration K-12th Grade
This two-module series helps participants increase their understanding around identifying functions of behavior and behavior intervention planning. LTSC: An Introduction to Close Reading (4 clock hours)
Presenter: Kim Kellogg
Description: OSPI worked closely with the nine ESDs to develop content-specific online learning for educators during Long-Term School Closure (LTSC). This online course is a result of that collaboration. This workshop will focus on effective implementation of close reading skills and strategies. Participants will learn about the phases of close reading and how these link to the ELA CCSS, ways to annotate texts, and how to create text-dependent questions for literary and informational texts.
This course will be offered via Canvas. Participants may complete the course at their own pace. There will be a Zoom check-in between participants and the instructor.
Target audience: 3rd-high school educators and TOSAs.

Teaching English Language Arts Virtually: Collaborating for Effective Practice (3 clock hours)

Description: Designed as a community of practice (CoP), participants will share ideas, successes and challenges in teaching ELA virtually. Sessions will be live through Zoom and limited to 10 participants. Additional groups will be created according to meeting time preferences.
3 one-hour live, online sessions via Zoom. Participants must have a laptop or tablet with a stable internet connection. They will need to connect with a camera and microphone as well or a cell phone. . Three one hour sessions are planned but may be extended if the group would like.
