Degrees and Certifications:
Mrs. Paula Bazinet
Hello! Along with Tina Simpkin, I teach New Horizons' only language classes-American Sign Language (ASL). The 2022-2023 school year will be my 4th at New Horizons and I cannot imagine teaching anywhere else!
I have been married to my husband Jerry for 29 years and we have four adult-children and two grandsons. We live on a mini-farm with 1 dog (a Great Pyrenees named Gunner), 1 cat (a Himalayan Flamepoint named Simba), 4 goats (Nigerian Dwarfs named Louie, Ella, Spotify, and Dapper), and 11 chickens (they are a variety of breeds, and yes, they all have names).
I am a nationally certified American Sign Language interpreter, holding generalist, education, and legal certifications. I love to share some of the many amazing experiences I've had while interpreting with my students.
In my free time, I love to spend time with Jerry and our pets, travel, crochet (and other crafts), and read. While most of our travel consists of visiting our kids in California, Colorado, or Oregon, my favorite place to visit is Alaska. One item on my bucket list is to live one full year in Alaska, since all 24 times I've been there have all been between May and September.
Another of my bucket list items is to visit Greece. We had plans to go in June of 2020, postponed to June of 2021, then to June of 2022, and as of now, we are scheduled to go in June of 2023.

My planning time is from 9-10:04 on Mondays, and 8-9:35 Tuesdays through Fridays. I teach our Virtual ASL class during second hour, and in-person ASL third and fourth hours.
I teach with the Comprehensible Input approach to language acquisition and it is my goal that when they have completed ASL classes at NHHS, students will be able to have a conversation with any person they may encounter who communicate in ASL. Please contact me if you have any questions about this approach.
