About the Board of Directors

  • Strong schools build strong communities.

One of the reasons that Pasco is a strong community is the effective and powerful leadership of the Pasco School District Board of Directors. This team of dedicated volunteers truly has the best interests of every student in mind as they make tough and important decisions. At the same time, they are well aware that many patrons may not agree with a given decision. This community can be proud of the talents, commitment, and passion each board member brings to their role.
The Board of Directors serves the children of the community in three essential functions: setting goals, setting policies, and evaluating results. The Board also approves all district budgets and expenditures, sets the needs and amount for every levy or bond election, and works in the community to increase understanding of the schools.
The Board consists of five elected members and up to three non-voting student members. The Superintendent acts as the board's secretary.
Candidates for the Pasco School District Board of Directors must be at least 18 years old, a citizen of the United States, a legal resident of Washington State, and a registered voter in the school district. If a vacancy occurs during any elected member's term the board will advertise the opening and select a new member who must then run for the office at the next general election.
    Addressing the Board:
Patrons are welcome to attend all regular board meetings and workshops. Regular meetings begin at 6:30 p.m. on the second and fourth Tuesday of each month and are usually held in the C.L. Booth Education Center Board Room, 1215 W. Lewis Street.
The Board follows the Washington Open Meetings Act. All public business is conducted and all votes are taken in the public meeting. Executive sessions are only called in strict accordance with the law.  Board meetings are published in the school calendar, on the district website, and notices are sent to the local newspapers at least 24 hours prior to each meeting. Meeting agendas and minutes can be found on the website. Agendas are posted on the website Friday evening preceding each regular board meeting.
While the board conducts its business in English, a Spanish translator is available at all regular meetings. Translators for other languages may be arranged with prior notification.
