School Improvement Plans 

Procedures

The school improvement planning process will be composed, at a minimum, of the following components. The elements named in the policy should be addressed in the school improvement planning process. These elements include the following:

  • Characteristics of effective schools as identified by the office of the superintendent of public instruction and the educational service district (a plan may focus on one or several of the characteristics for up to three years);
  • Safe and supportive learning environments;
  • Educational equity factors including gender, race, ethnicity, culture, language and physical and mental ability;
  • Use of technology;
  • Funding sources;
  • Technical support;
  • Parent and community involvement; and
  • Other factors identified by the school and community for inclusion in the plan or process.

School Improvement Team

Each school will organize a school improvement team whose primary responsibility is the development of the building’s school improvement plan. The school improvement team will be composed of certified and classified staff, administrator(s), parents, community member(s), and students at middle and high school levels. The school improvement team should meet no less than quarterly and more often if determined by the team. The team may develop single task subcommittees made up of other staff, parents, community members, and/or students as necessary and/or appropriate.

School Improvement Planning Process

School improvement planning process will be composed of these steps:

  1. Review current data and conduct needs assessment(s) as necessary
  2. Set and prioritize goals
  3. Develop action plans for goals
  4. Implement school improvement plan
  5. Review impact of school improvement plan on student achievement based on current and historical data analysis
  6. Refine school improvement plan based on data analysis
  7. Present updated school improvement plan to board for yearly approval by June 30th
  8. Complete annual school improvement progress report; share with stakeholders
