Policy 9331

SCHOOL FACILITIES

Integrated Pest Management ProgramThe board of directors supports the adoption of the Integrated Pest Management (IPM) program by the district. The IPM program will emphasize the use of current comprehensive information on available pest control methods that minimize hazards to people, property, and the environment. The IPM program adopted by the district will stress the use of  active, non-chemical control when possible.

The district shall provide notification upon request to parents/guardians and employees describing  the school’s pest control policies and methods, including information regarding notice and posting of information as required by law.

The district shall also establish a notification system for schools and other district facilities to provide notice of pesticide application at least forty-eight (48) hours in advance of such application. Such notice must be posted in a prominent location at the school or district facility, and contain such information as required by law.

The application of pesticides shall be carried out by authorized district staff, in a manner consistent with the IPM program. Employees may not apply pesticides in or around district grounds and facilities without express authorization by the the IPM program coordinator.

The superintendent is directed to designate the district’s IPM program coordinator, and to develop procedures for implementation of the IPM program, consistent with this policy and applicable state law.
