Calling all students! "Celebrating PSD Superstars" 2024-25 Calendar Art Contest

Pasco School District is pleased to present a School Calendar Art Contest to engage students in a creative process to showcase their artistic abilities.

Contest Deadline

All art entries should be submitted on or before May 10, 2024, by 4:30 PM. Late and mailed art will not be accepted. Limit one (1) entry per person.


The theme for this year is: Celebrating PSD Superstars - Celebrando a las Superestrellas del PSD.

Artwork can encompass elements that make students feel celebrated at school, such as:

  • Favorite subjects or activities, including science experiments, sports, music, or reading

  • Demonstrations of school pride, like cheering at sports events or donning school colors

  • Academic achievements, awards, or milestones

  • Embracing diversity, equity, and inclusion

  • Aspirations and future goals

  • Supportive relationships among students, friends, teachers, and parents

  • Special school events or traditions

  • Acts of kindness and compassion

  • Embracing uniqueness and individuality

  • Spirit of resilience and perseverance

Selection Process

The artwork will be judged on the following criteria: 

  • Artistic merit

  • Originality 
  • Creativity
  • Suitable for a all calendar
  • How well the artwork highlights the Celebrating PSD Superstars - Celebrando a las Superestrellas del PSD theme   

A panel of judges will select winners on May 17. Winners will be surprised in their classrooms the week of May 28 – May 31 and announced on the district's social media pages June 3. 

How the Contest Works

Winners are chosen based on their current grade level and the corresponding months below. Students should only draw or paint a picture to illustrate the Celebrating PSD Superstars - Celebrando a las Superestrellas del PSD theme, NOT based on the month/season.  

Kindergarten - September 4th Grade - January   8th Grade - May  
1st Grade - October   5th Grade - February 9th Grade - June  
2nd Grade - November   6th Grade - March   10th Grade - July
3rd Grade - December   7th Grade - April   11th/12th Grade - August/September  

The cover art will be selected based on the judge’s choice. 

Prize Sponsored by:

One (1) “Grand Prize Winner” will receive a $300 Visa Gift Card. Their winning art submission piece will be featured on the cover of the 2024-2025 Pasco School District calendar. In addition, it will also be on PSD’s website, social media, Pasco School Minute radio spot, and internal/external newsletters. 

Twelve (12) winners will receive a $100 Visa Gift Card. Their winning art submission will be featured on their grade corresponding month in the 2024-2025 Pasco School District calendar. They will also be recognized on PSD’s website and social media platforms. 

Rules for Originality

Students and teachers, parents, and/or guardians are responsible for entering only ORIGINAL WORK of art produced by the participating student. 

  1. Artwork MAY NOT be copied from other sources without substantial creative changes; this includes other paintings and photographs. Artwork deemed to be like a copied source or plagiarized will be disqualified. If plagiarism is discovered after the awards are made and/or the calendar printed, the student may be disqualified from future contests and disciplinary action will take place. In addition, the prize will be revoked, and the artwork and student’s name will be removed from our website gallery of past winners. 

  1. Every element of the artwork (design, lines, marks, paint, color, shapes, shading, highlights, etc.) must be the work of the student(s) whose name appears on the back of the artwork and be done by that student’s hand. 

  1. No tracing of other works is allowed, including sketches by teachers, parents, etc.

  2. Artwork submissions must not include any copyright material, including characters, logos, or other protected content, to ensure originality and compliance with intellectual property rights. 

How Artwork Should be Submitted

  • Drawings should be exactly 8.5x11 inches in a horizontal/landscape orientation.

  • Drawings on white or light-colored paper will reproduce best.  
  • Please do not fold or crease the artwork. 
  • Do not use ruled notebook paper.

How Artwork/Artist Should be Identified

  1. The artwork can be any medium if the art is flat. Charcoal and pastel drawings should be sprayed with a fixative. 

  2. Do not use glitter, sand, liquids, or other elements that can flake off or otherwise damage the works of other students. 
  3. No photographic process digitally created or digitally-manipulated art, metallic or fluorescent paints may be used in the finished, submitted art entry.
  4. Artwork must be in the horizontal or “landscape” position to best fit the wall calendar’s format. If artwork is submitted in the vertical or “portrait” position, it will be disqualified.
  5. The artwork should be stand-alone artwork; do not include words on the artwork such as the name of the month, days of the week, or calendar dates.
  6. Submit the original artwork. Judges will not consider photocopies.
  7. Do not mount, mat, or frame artwork.
  8. Do not fold or crease artwork.
  9. Do not include written words or captions in your artwork. Comic book style artwork will be disqualified. 
  10. Do not incorporate any references to holidays or religious content.

On the back of each entry, in the lower right-hand corner, legibly print the student’s first and last name, age, grade, and school. Also, please title the work, and briefly note how it connects to the theme Celebrating PSD Superstars - Celebrando a las Superestrellas del PSD If the connection is not obvious, include any other information that the judges might find useful.  

In addition to information, on the back of each entry include a copy of the 2024-2025 entry form available in this packet or downloaded from The form must be signed by each student-artist and parent/guardian (if the student is under 18 years old) acknowledging the student has adhered to the rules of originality and each submission is original according to the guidelines above. 

All submitted artwork will become the property of the Pasco School District and will not be returned to the artists upon the conclusion of the calendar art contest. Winning artwork may undergo changes or modifications for printing purposes, and the Pasco School District reserves the right to use it as deemed appropriate without requiring the consent of the artist or their family.

Release and Limitations of Liabilities

By participating in the contest, entrants agree to release and hold harmless the Sponsor, and the school district and each of their respective parents, affiliates, advertising and promotion agencies or any other companies associated with the contest.
