• Principal Nunamaker Dear Maya Angelou Families,

On April 26 the voters of Pasco will be asked to vote on a $59 million bond initiative. If passed, the Bond will add an additional 95 cents per $1000 to existing taxes. For a $100,000 home the cost would be an additional $95 a year or $7.91 a month. Please remember to vote.

Spring is officially here, even though the weather continues its unpredictable pattern. It is hard to believe that there is only nine more weeks until the end of this school year. The last day of school is Monday, June 13th. We still have much to accomplish before we send the children home for the summer holiday. Teachers continue to work with your child so that s/he continues to make progress in all academic areas.

The onset of spring also means Measurements of Student Progress (MSP) testing is coming. Third grade will take Reading and Math tests. Reading, Math and Writing are the tests the fourth graders take, while the fifth graders will take tests in reading, math and science. This year, our 5th grade students will take the science MSP on the computer. In order to accommodate the online testing, the 5th graders have until June 3rd to take the science test.

The state-level MSP assessments require students to both select and create answers to demonstrate their knowledge, skills, and understanding in each of the Grade Level Expectations (GLEs)--from multiple-choice and short-answer questions, to problem solving tasks. Each MSP test is untimed which allows students to have as much time as they reasonably need to complete their work.

The MSP will be administered from May 2-May 19. Attendance is very important during this time. At the bottom of the page you will find the dates that our students will take the MSP. It is our hope that you can schedule any appointments around these dates. Please be sure your child gets plenty of rest and eats a healthy breakfast. Encourage your child to his/her best on each test.

We are currently registering children for Kindergarten for the 20011-2012 school year. Children must be five by August 31, 2011. Please bring your child’s birth certificate and immunization records when you come to register him/her. Hours for registration are 8:00-4:00 Monday– Friday. We will be having a Kindergarten Round-up on Wednesday, May 4, from 5-6PM where you can register incoming kindergarterners and meet the kindergarten teachers.

Thank you for the excellent support you provide for our school and your kids every day. We appreciate all you do!

    Warmly,
    LeAnn
