The event was held in conjunction with the 88th Washington State FFA Convention in Pullman, WA. The teams, led by Chiawana advisors Johnson, Coulsey & Alford, were awarded 1st place plaques in their respective events and have qualified to represent WA at the National FFA Convention in October 2018. Trevor Schmitt was the state winner of Employment Skills and was also installed as the 2018-2019 WA State Vice President. Brenda Lopez, Brysa Castaneda and Jesus Ramirez were the state winners of Talent.

The WA FFA Employment LDE is designed to allow students to develop, practice, and demonstrate skills needed in seeking employment in the agriculture industry, while examining career interests and opportunities in their local communities. The event is designed to recognize outstanding FFA members for their ability to prepare and interview for real-world employment opportunities. Part of the preparation includes creating a cover letter, résumé and completing a job application. Participants also show their ability to think on their feet through a networking activity. The event, held at the WSU Campus in Pullman, WA., is one of many educational activities at the WA State FFA Convention & Expo in which FFA members practice the lessons learned in agricultural education classes.

The WA FFA talent contest shows off the incredible diversity among FFA members in the state. Twenty-six talent competitors &/or teams auditioned in Daggy Hall on the Pullman campus on Thursday May 10th. Eight of those went on to perform in one of the four general sessions in Beasley Coliseum which held as many as 3,100 FFA members and guests. In the final general session talent competitors were recognized for their hard work.

Also receiving recognition was the 3rd place Poultry Evaluation team; Baylee Easterday, Hannah Easterday, Vanessa Ortiz, Alyssa Gerhard. Third place Extemporaneous speaking went to Trevor Schmitt. State Degree awards were received by Baylee Easterday & Trevor Schmitt. Chiawana FFA is an affiliated chapter and received the 100% membership award.
