Pasco School Board Named 2018 Board of Distinction

The Pasco School District Board of Directors is one of 29 Washington school boards named as a 2018 Board of Distinction by the Washington State School Directors’ Association (WSSDA).

Board President Steve Christensen, Board Vice President Amy Phillips, and members Sherry Lancon, Scott Lehrman and Aaron Richardson will be honored during the annual WSSDA conference in Spokane this month.

The annual Boards of Distinction program honors school boards that demonstrate effective use of the Washington School Board Standards. The standards, developed and adopted by WSSDA in 2009, promote research-based governance practices that lead to high levels of student and district achievement, and help close the opportunity gap.

The PSD Board was also named a Board of Distinction in 2014 and 2017. In 2009 and 2016 they were named the WSSDA Board of the Year.

Applicants provided two essays, one regarding the board’s efforts to close the opportunity gap and a second which described the application of one of the WSSDA standards for school boards. These essays provided a clear relationship between the board’s use of data and how it informed decisions, and how those decisions resulted in positive outcomes for students. The applications were evaluated by an independent review panel.
